Honda will begin the Rose Parade this year with a special float, pace car, and sound car!

Tues_rancho

Honda ‘Follow Your Dreams’ Float to Lead 2013 Rose Parade

The Honda 2013 Rose Parade float entry, “Follow Your Dreams,” will be the first float in the 124th Rose Parade, themed “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!™,” on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013. The float’s design captures the theme through its imaginative depiction of innovative Honda technologies and Dr. Seuss-inspired features. This marks the 52nd year Honda has collaborated with the Tournament of Roses and its third year as presenting sponsor. The all-new 2013 Honda Accord Sedan will be the parade’s official pace car and the all-new 2013 Honda Accord Coupe will serve as the sound car.

“The world of endless possibilities that awaits us all is creatively displayed on the Honda float, and it truly captures the spirit of the 124th Rose Parade theme, ‘Oh, the Places You’ll Go!,’” said Tournament of Roses president Sally M. Bixby. “‘Follow Your Dreams’ is a wonderful first float for the Parade on Jan. 1.”

Parade-watchers will witness a 100-foot-long whimsical festival of dreams, imagination and youth that will include three world-champion athletes riding on the float: U.S. sprinter Carmelita Jeter, and from the summer’s “Fierce Five” gymnastics team, McKayla Maroney and Kyla Ross.

The float has three islands featuring fantastical elements that could intersect in the inventiveness of a dream. On the middle island, a creative structure that emulates a castle, complete with an eclectic form of architecture for each roof, wall and staircase, is the centerpiece. A double-propeller helicopter-like apparatus with landing gear already extended is flying over a gateway that leads to a 16-foot-high working slide – the first working slide to be featured in the Tournament of Roses Parade. The slide is symbolic of the journey where dreams take you. Each rider of the slide will find this gateway as their starting point.

The slide connects the middle island to the front island of the float that features a mobile with a periscope that has moving legs. The HondaJet also is seen flying above colorful island trees.

A bridge extends from the center to the rear portion of the float with a sailboat traveling underneath and an American flag serving as a banner. The third island is topped with an airship complete with circular nose, exposed engine and an intertwined exhaust system. To the rear of a second smaller castle on the last island, ASIMO, the world’s most advanced humanoid robot, is being lifted by colorful balloons. On the other side, a hot air balloon also can be seen floating toward the stars.

For the third straight year, Honda’s float will be propelled by a specially configured hybrid, low-emission engine to help the float function more efficiently and reduce its carbon footprint.

“Honda believes in The Power of Dreams, and their ability to empower us to help make society a better place,” said Stephan Morikawa, assistant vice president of American Honda Corporate Community Relations. “The Rose Parade is an opportunity to showcase innovative Honda technologies and to wish a happy New Year to everyone watching along the Parade route and on television.”

The Honda float features more than 5,000 roses, 11,000 carnations and 2,500 gerberas. A variety of flowers, plants and seeds will be used, including lavender dendrobs, pink pincushion protea, white queen Anne’s lace, dark blue iris, light pink carnations, orange roses, yellow button mums, bronze fine cut strawflower, purple fine cut statice, red hanging amaranth, Kermit green mums, brown flax seed, green ground parsley flakes, black onion seed, green ground split pea, shiny grey silverleaf, red large kidney beans and cream corn husk, among many others. All of these natural materials will later be ground up for mulch after the conclusion of the parade activities.

Honda first collaborated with the Tournament of Roses in 1961 to provide two-wheeled vehicles for 1962 Parade operations. Honda has been a float participant in the Rose Parade since 1977 and has provided the official Tournament of Roses vehicle since 1994. Honda continues to supply two-wheeled vehicles and also provides side-by-side (multi-utility) vehicles for Parade operations.

As presenting sponsor, the Honda float is annually the first in the Parade and showcases the theme. As a result, it will not be considered a commercial entry and will not compete during the judging process. Prior to becoming presenting sponsor in 2011, Honda floats won awards in 15 of the previous 16 years.

2013 Honda Civic at the 2012 L.A. Auto Show

6a00d83451b3c669e2017ee5bdb4c1970d-800wi

  • Competes with: Toyota Corolla, Chevrolet Cruze, Ford Focus, Hyundai Elantra
  • Looks like: Honda took criticism of its Civic to heart and worked to improve the car
  • Drivetrain: 140-hp, 1.8-liter four-cylinder; 110-hp, 1.5-liter four-cylinder gas-electric hybrid; and 201-hp, 2.4-liter four-cylinder or 110-hp, 1.8-liter natural-gas four-cylinder with five-speed manual, six-speed manual (Si) or five-speed automatic transmission; front-wheel drive
  • Hits dealerships: Civic sedan is on sale now, with full lineup available by February 2013

It was only one model year ago that Honda launched a redesigned version of its popular Civic compact car, but the 2012 model was criticized in some circles for not being a big-enough leap forward and, where interior materials were concerned, taking a step back.

That criticism appears to have been overblown — the Civic remains one of the best-selling cars in the country — but Honda has put together an extensive list of appearance and content changes for the 2013 Civic.

6a00d83451b3c669e2017c341a0a2d970b-800wi

The Civic sedan gets some of the biggest design changes, with updated front and rear styling. Chome accents adorn the new grille and lower front bumper, making the car look more distinctive in a class that’s gained a lot of style in recent years — just take a look at the new versions of the Ford Focus and Hyundai Elantra. The hood is also new. There's more chrome in back, with a strip of it running the width of the trunk lid, which gains sections of the car's new taillights. Even though these changes are limited to the front and rear of the car, they significantly affect the sedan's appearance. The Civic coupe's exterior styling carries over unchanged, but all models get restyled wheels.

The revisions are more than skin deep, though. The 2013 Civic gets the latest version of Honda's Advanced Compatibility Engineering body structure, dubbed ACE II. It features additional structures designed to disperse crash energy in small-overlap front-end collisions, something the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has recently begun evaluating. Honda expects the 2013 Civic will get the top rating in this new IIHS crash test. Other safety features include side curtain airbags with a rollover sensor, and forward-collision and lane-departure warning systems go in the Civic Hybrid.

Honda has also updated the car's steering and suspension. The electronically assisted power-steering system has a quicker ratio, while the springs are stiffer and the stabilizer bars are thicker to reduce body roll in corners.

The cabin is quieter, with a thicker windshield and front side windows, Honda says. It also added soundproofing material in the dashboard, floor, doors and rear tray.

Changes to the Civic's interior are designed to give it a more premium feel, according to Honda. They include new headliner material, soft-touch surfaces on the dashboard and upper portion of the doors, and new trim textures. Honda says the seat fabric has been improved, and an all-black color scheme is newly available.

Standard features across the 2013 Civic range include Bluetooth connectivity with audio streaming, a backup camera, Honda's i-MID display screen, iPod connectivity, Pandora compatibility, steering-wheel audio controls, an outside temperature gauge and a sliding center armrest.

It's practically unheard of for a car to get so many changes the year after a redesign. These kinds of large-scale changes typically occur three or four years later as part of a midcycle refresh. Value-minded buyers might be miffed the DX trim is no longer offered, as its departure effectively raises the Civic's base price by about $2,000. But shoppers considering one of the higher trims get many new features for that $160 price bump.

Honda continues to increase safety in their vehicles, this time solving the age old problem of blind spots!

Honda

Honda LaneWatch Technology Eliminates Blind Spots

Available for the first time on the redesigned 2013 Honda Accord sedan and coupe, LaneWatch integrates a rearview camera right into the right-hand mirror, to provide a wide-angle view of the “blind spot” area at the car’s right.

One of the most worrisome concerns on multi-lane highways is the sudden appearance of a vehicle zooming up alongside you on the right. We’ve all had it happen – and many of us have experienced a “close call,” starting to edge to the right just as that out-of-nowhere vehicle turns up in the adjacent lane.

Honda has a most helpful remedy for those situations, with its new LaneWatch feature. Whenever the turn-signal lever is pushed upward, to signal a right turn or lane change, a clear, sharp image of the roadway to the rear of that passenger-side mirror appears on the deep-set 8-inch video screen at the center of the dashboard. LaneWatch can be configured to operate when pushing a button on the turn-signal stalk.

At a glance, you can tell if any vehicles are in that right lane, behind you – and possibly coming up fast. The image from the mirror-mounted camera takes precedence over whatever else might have been displayed on the screen a moment before. As soon as the turn signal goes off, the camera view disappears and the previous information is displayed again.

Honda’s LaneWatch is standard on sedans in the EX trim level and higher (not on LX), and on Accord EX-L coupes and the new Accord Plug-In.

Rancho_santa

Honda Gives 2013 CR-Z Sport Coupe Gets Performance Upgrade

The 2013 Honda CR-Z goes on sale November 21, 2012, with a host of powertrain, styling and feature upgrades adding to its sleek appeal and sporty handling. More power from an all-new Lithium-Ion battery pack improves performance while also improving the CR-Z's already impressive EPA mpg ratings. Styling upgrades include revised interior trim along with a new front fascia, a new finish for the 16-inch alloy wheels, an aerodynamically functional new rear diffuser and two new exterior colors – Passion Berry Pearl and Polished Metal Metallic.

Powertrain
The CR-Z hybrid powertrain is a unique variation of Honda's original IMA (Integrated Motor Assist) technology, which debuted on the 2000 Honda Insight, the first hybrid vehicle  available for sale in North America. The system in the CR-Z utilizes a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder, 16-valve, single-overhead cam engine with "intelligent" Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (i-VTEC) that receives additional power from the Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) system's DC brushless electric motor.

The hybrid CR-Z's electric motor assists in acceleration and also acts as a generator during braking or coasting to capture kinetic energy that recharges the new Lithium-Ion battery pack. The gasoline engine can automatically turn off during vehicle stops to improve efficiency. When starting on steep inclines from a stop with the manual transmission, hill start assist temporarily prevents the vehicle from rolling backwards during the moment between releasing the brake, depressing the throttle and releasing the clutch.

For 2013, assist from the electric motor has jumped from 10 kW to 15 kW, thanks to the new higher voltage (144-volt) Lithium-Ion battery pack. The CR-Z now delivers a combined peak output of 130 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 140 lb-ft. of torque (127 lb-ft. on CVT-equipped models), a gain of eight horsepower and 12 lb-ft of torque (4 lb-ft on CVT equipped models). Manual-transmission versions also receive both a larger clutch and a new lower final drive ratio.

Even with better performance, EPA fuel economy3 ratings for the 2013 Honda CR-Z have improved. On CVT-equipped models, the EPA city/hwy/combined rating is up 1 mpg city to 36/39/37 mpg, while models equipped with the 6-speed manual transmission see an EPA mpg rating of 31/38/34, a gain of 1 mpg highway. The CR-Z is also rated as an Advanced Technology-Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (AT-PZEV) in states that adhere to California Air Resource Board (CARB) ZEV standards (EPA Tier 2, Bin 2 in all states).

To help drivers make use of this improved performance, a new Plus Sport System is standard on the 2013 Honda CR-Z. If the battery is more than 50 percent charged and the CR-Z is traveling over 19 mph, the driver can activate this feature using the "S+" button on the steering wheel. When activated and the accelerator is pressed, electric boost begins, delivering increased acceleration for up to five seconds. A flashing gauge on the dashboard indicates when the Plus Sport System is active. The Plus Sport System can be used in Econ, Normal or Sport modes.

Enhanced 3-Mode Drive System
Activated via three backlit buttons to the left of the steering wheel, the CR-Z's 3-mode drive system allows the driver to choose among three individual performance modes:

  • Sport mode enhances engine throttle responsiveness, electric power steering effort and the electric motor power assist.
  • Normal mode standardizes steering, engine response, motor assist and air conditioning settings.
  • Econ mode can increase the potential for enhanced fuel efficiency by optimizing throttle angle for smooth acceleration, lower engine rpm and limiting power and torque by approximately 4-percent (except at wide-open throttle). It can also reduce the air conditioning's overall load on the engine and modify the cruise control to operate more efficiently.

Body
The CR-Z's "one-motion" exterior wedge shape begins at its low-slung hood to form a broad forward stance, with its side profile's deeply inset beltline adding a dynamic element. For 2013, a new front fascia and mesh grille help widen the presence of the CR-Z, and this effect is increased by the new "floating" lower front spoiler lip. New brighter chrome plating on the headlight assemblies tinged with blue clearcoat hint at the CR-Z's hybrid powertrain. The new rear diffuser mimics the floating lip of the front spoiler while also improving aerodynamic performance, and the lower portion of the tail lights receive the same blue clearcoat treatment. Exterior colors include Crystal Black Pearl, Milano Red, North Shore Blue Pearl, Premium White Pearl, new Passion Berry Pearl (exclusive to the Honda CR-Z), and new Polished Metal Metallic.

Chassis
The CR-Z's front MacPherson strut and rear H-shaped torsion beam suspension are tuned to provide a sporty driving experience. All 2013 CR-Z models are equipped with new darker-tinged 16x6-inch aluminum wheels with finished spoke tips and 195/55R-16 tires, while accessory 17x7 alloy wheels with 205/45R-17 tires are available. The standard anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake distribution (EBD) uses ventilated front discs and solid rear discs. The low vehicle height, short wheelbase and placement of the battery and other hybrid components beneath the rear cargo area further contribute to a low center of gravity and responsive, sporty handling. Electric power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering enhances steering performance and improves efficiency.

Interior
A high-tech appearance and intuitive controls define the CR-Z's newly revised interior. For 2013, interior changes include new metallic trim on the door pulls and latches, center console, speaker grilles and lower steering-wheel spokes. The inner door panel has been redesigned to provide easier access to the storage space, with the horizontal bar on the speaker housing eliminated, and a bottle holder added to the pocket. The door-pad trim has also been upgraded with a new, more upscale lamination. For 2013, CR-Z EX and Navi trims will provide an all-new black and red interior trim combination that adds new two-toned combi seats, and colored accents to the door panels and floor mats.

The CR-Z's ultra-modern instrument panel gauges illuminate with a 3-dimensional blue color theme resulting in a multi-layered appearance. The upper portion of the dashboard extends toward the driver to provide a wraparound cockpit environment. Premium sport-oriented seats are designed to provide firm lateral support along with everyday driving comfort. A mid-ship console behind the front seats optimizes cargo space, and a hard-shell separator can be closed to create additional hidden storage.

The CR-Z features a 6-speaker, 160-watt AM/FM/CD audio system with an auxiliary input jack for connection to a portable audio player, and all models include a USB audio interface4 for connecting an iPod®5 or other compatible audio device. Other audio features include speed-sensitive volume control and CD/MP3 text readout. The radio data system shows supplemental programming information from participating radio stations while also offering search-by-genre capability (not available on the CR-Z EX with navigation). Now standard, Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® and a rearview camera further expand the CR-Z's appeal.

A Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System™2 is available on the CR-Z EX model and features a 6.5-inch screen and rearview camera display. For 2013, CR-Z EX Navi models add FM traffic, Pandora® and an SMS text messaging function. The navigation system database includes more than 7-million points of interest and integrates the audio system, while the voice recognition feature is capable of inputting numbers, street names and cities, in addition to more than 600 commands.

Safety
The CR-Z demonstrates a commitment to safety in its design and construction. The Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure helps protect vehicle occupants in a frontal collision. Additional safety technologies include: standard dual-stage, multiple-threshold front airbags; standard front-side airbags with passenger-side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS); side-curtain airbags, active head restraints; an anti-lock braking system (ABS); a tire pressure monitoring system; and a pedestrian injury mitigation design in the front of the vehicle.

The Honda CR-Z earned a TOP SAFETY PICK rating from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) and 4-star Overall Vehicle Score in federal National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) crash tests.

Honda sets plans in motion to start testing their new Micro Commuter next year.

Honda Micro Commuter prototype previews future city-sized EV

The 2013 Honda Micro Commuter prototype has been unveiled in Tokyo, symbolising the beginning of a new phase in the Japanese manufacturer’s electric vehicle development.

The second-generation prototype trades many of the futuristic elements of the original Micro Commuter concept from 2011′s Tokyo motor show, replacing them with a more practical, user-friendly design intended to be suitable for use on public roads.

Honda plans to begin testing the pint-sized Micro Commuter in Japan next year, establishing the potential of the short-range EV in a number of different environments and conditions, with a view to launching a new zero-emission production car suitable for Japan and Europe in the coming years.

At 2500mm long, 1250mm wide and 1445mm tall, the Honda Micro Commuter is 195mm shorter, 309mm narrower and 97mm lower than the Smart Fortwo.

A lithium-ion battery positioned under the floor spins a 15kW electric motor, which propels the sub-400kg Micro Commuter to its 80km/h top speed.

Honda says the prototype has a range of approximately 60km and can be recharged in less than three hours.

Connecting an iPad or similar tablet device to the dashboard gives the driver access to all of the vehicle’s internal functions, including instruments and meters, audio, navigation and reversing camera display.

Solar cells on the roof recharge the tablet’s battery, and Honda says it is investigating the potential to harness solar energy to enhance the Micro Commuter’s driving performance.

Honda believes low-range EVs like the Micro Commuter have the potential to revolutionise personal transportation for a number of road users, including families with small children, senior citizens, home delivery services and car-share users.

Following a few easy car care tips can help you keep your Honda in peak condition

Ransanmarg

Drive with care everyday

  • Do not race your car’s engine during start-up.This is a quick way to add years of wear to your engine, especially if it’s cold outside.
  • Accelerate slowly when you begin your drive. The most wear to the engine and drive train occurs in the first ten to twenty minutes of operation.
  • Warming the engine by letting it idle in the driveway is not a smart idea. The engine doesn’t operate at its peak temperature, resulting in incomplete fuel combustion, soot deposits on cylinder walls, oil contamination, and ultimately damaged components.
  • Put less strain on your engine and automatic transmission by shifting to neutral at red lights. Otherwise, the engine is still working to push the car even while it’s stopped.
  • Avoid driving at high speeds and accelerating quickly, especially when it’s very hot or very cold outside. Such driving behavior will result in more frequent repairs.
  • Extend the life of your tires with careful driving. Observe posted speed limits. Avoid fast starts, stops, and turns. Avoid potholes and objects on the road. Don’t run over curbs or hit the tire against the curb when parking. And, of course, don’t burn rubber.
  • When turning your steering wheel, don’t hold it in an extreme right or left position for more than a few seconds. Doing so can damage the power-steering pump.
  • Consolidate your short driving trips. Most of the wear and tear — as well as the pollution your car generates — takes place in the first few minutes of driving. Doing several errands at once, during low traffic hours if possible, will keep your engine happier longer.

Ladies, if you love all things pink, this is the perfect Honda for you!

Tues_ranacho

Honda Fit She’s, the world’s only car aimed exclusively at women

Around the world, building and designing cars remains a male-dominated business, and many companies live by an old axiom that women will buy a man's car but men won't buy a woman's car. While a few companies have attempted to bend that rule, only Honda has chosen to embrace it with the Honda Fit She's -- the only model built by an automaker today aimed exclusively at women. Hope you like pink, ladies.

Launched this summer, the Honda Fit She's designers say they wanted to take a regular Fit subcompact and make it in their words "adult cute." That means lots of pink: Pink stitching in the seats and steering wheel and floor mats, matched by pink metallic bezels around the shifter and displays. There's also a few extra shades of pink in the special She's badge, spelled with a heart for an apostrophe. If pink isn't a customer's style, Japanese buyers can also select a Fit She's in shades of brown and white that a Honda executive told the Yomuri Shinbun newspaper match the color of eyeshadow.

To Honda's credit, the Fit She's beauty treatment isn't just skin deep. It also comes with special windshield glass that cuts 99 percent of ultraviolet rays and a "Plasmacluster" air conditioning system that Honda claims can improve a driver's skin quality, all aimed at stopping those wrinkles that turn adult cute into just adult. With a starting price of $17,500, the Fit She's got an attractive price for a home-market Japanese car.

The 2013 Accord Touring redefines luxury and style, earning itself this impressive review!

Honda

The Extra Mile: 2013 Honda Accord Touring

This week, we're behind Honda's all-new generation 2013 Accord, delivered in Touring Edition dress which happens to be the most expensive Accord available.

Accord enthusiasts, who have waited eagerly for the all-new new model, have been rewarded for their patience. Explicitly, the new Accord is perhaps one of the best cars Honda has ever built, featuring a sleek new design that is sporty yet classical and re-defines the amount of luxury a car builder can put into a vehicle that starts at just $21,680.

Arriving on our shores in 1976 as a 2-door 68-horsepower 2,000 lb. compact, Accord quickly became a Honda best seller in the compact and mid-size class. Today's Accord, which is built in Marysville, Ohio, and was the very first foreign car built in America, has grown in dimensions (3,500 lbs.) and horsepower (278), along with a bevy of standard features many higher priced luxury cars charge extra for.

Our Accord Touring tester features no options whatsoever, as the top line model comes fully loaded. It features a unique high-tech Honda "Lane Watch," which activates a camera on the passenger side that allows the driver to see what is going on from front to rear on the passenger side. "Lane Watch" helps when re-entering the right lane after passing and also assists in parallel parking. When stopped for a red-light, the system sees small children or dogs and a host of other happenings. Your Honda dealer will gladly explain both standard and optional high tech features, which are many.

At this point, everyone's perhaps thinking that the aforementioned base LX Accord doesn't feature much at just $21,680.

Think again, sans the "Lane Watch" which is available on the EX series ($24,605) or higher.

For $21,680 Accord LX comes standard with a 185-hp 2.4-Liter four-cylinder, vehicle stability assist, 4-wheel disc ABS, traction control, 6-speed manual transmission (automatic CVT transmission is $800 more), Eco assist system, hill start assist, 16-inch alloy wheels, security system with remote entry, chrome door handles, dual-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth, SMS Text Message, steering wheel-mounted cruise, audio, phone and i-MID Controls, Pandora internet radio, all the airbags, USB audio interface, MP3, eight-inch 480x320 resolution display screen with rearview safety camera and chrome exhaust tips. Fuel mileage is 27 city and 36 highway with the CVT transmission, which I recommend over the 6-speed manual, which delivers 24 and 34 MPG, respectively.

Consumers can then move up the Accord ladder to Sport, EX, EX-L, EX-L V6 and top line Touring V6, the latter loaded with numerous luxury amenities and a powerful V-6 under the hood. There is also a two-door coupe for the younger set, which is equally impressive.

Speaking of the V6, get ready for some real Honda horsepower and good fuel mileage, too. The 278 horsepower feels more like 350 for whatever reason, and the non-CVT six-speed automatic is properly geared for both performance and economy.

On the highway, Accord Touring is poised and ready for any merge or curve you throw at it thanks to a front strut and rear multi-link independent suspension. You'll enjoy secure handling and a ride that is quiet and refined with room for five adults.

Important numbers include a wheelbase of 109.3 inches, 3,559 lb. curb weight, 15.8 cu. ft. of cargo space and a 17.2 gallon fuel tank.

Following a few easy driving tips will help to keep everyone safe this Halloween

Rancho

Halloween Driving Safety Tips

Drive slowly, and don't pass stopped vehicles. The driver might be dropping off children.

Park your mobile phone. Avoid distractions by waiting until you've stopped to call, text, or surf. Get more mobile phone safety tips.

Watch for children darting into the street. Kids can cross the street anywhere, and most young pedestrian deaths happen at spots other than intersections.

Yield to young pedestrians. Children might not stop, either because they don't see your vehicle approaching or don't know how to safely cross the street.

Communicate with other drivers. Always use your turn signals. And if you have to pull over to drop off or pick up your kids, turn on your hazard lights.

Honda reaches a milestone in their efforts to reduce their carbon footprint

Rancho

Worldwide Sales of Honda Hybrid Vehicles Reach One Million Units

Honda Motor Co., Ltd. announced that cumulative worldwide sales of its hybrid vehicles surpassed one million units as of the end of September 2012. This milestone was reached 12 years and 11 months after the start of sales of the first generation Honda Insight in Japan on November 1999, which achieved a fuel economy rating of 35km/liter1, then rated as the world's most fuel efficient vehicle among all mass-production gasoline-powered vehicles.

Honda began hybrid vehicle sales in U.S. in 1999 with the 2000 Honda Insight – the first gasoline-electric hybrid vehicle sold in America. Cumulative sales of Honda hybrid vehicles in the U.S. market have now reached over 318,000 units, predominately sales of the Insight and Civic Hybrid.

Capitalizing on the unique features of Honda's original lightweight and compact IMA (Integrated Motor Assist) hybrid system, Honda has been enhancing its hybrid vehicle lineup and currently sells eight hybrid models in approximately 50 countries around the world, including four distinct models in the U.S.

In May 2012, Honda began to produce hybrid models in regions outside of Japan starting with the Acura ILX Hybrid2 in the U.S., followed by production of the Jazz (Fit) Hybrid in Thailand. Honda will also begin production of the Jazz Hybrid in Malaysia at the end of October in an effort to deliver hybrid vehicles with speed, affordability and low CO2 emissions for customers in Asia where demand for fuel-efficient vehicles is expected to grow in the future.

In addition to further advancing the current hybrid model offerings equipped with the one-motor IMA hybrid system, Honda is introducing new hybrid systems for mid-size models that will be equipped with a two-motor hybrid system. Additionally, a highly-efficient and high-output three-motor hybrid system, the Sport Hybrid SH-AWD® (Super Handling All Wheel Drive), offering both superior dynamic handling and fuel efficiency, will be applied to the Acura NSX and RLX Sport Hybrid model, as well as the successor model of the Legend, scheduled to be introduced in Japan.

Under the global environmental slogan of "Blue Skies for Our Children," Honda will continue its efforts to further market penetration of hybrid vehicles to realize a low carbon society.

The newly available 2013 Honda Ridgeline is as versatile as it is dependable

Tuesday_honda

2013 Honda Ridgeline Arrives with Standard Rearview Camera and Unmatched Combination of Practicality, Efficiency and Value

After receiving an extensive mid-cycle refresh for 2012, including a new high-value Sport trim level, new front styling and improved fuel efficiency, the Honda Ridgeline returns for 2013 with a rearview camera now standard on all trim levels. The 2013 Honda Ridgeline represents an exclusive and innovative approach in the half-ton pickup truck segment, prioritizing its construction and features based on the capabilities that recreational truck buyers need and use the most.

The Honda Ridgeline features a closed-box, uni-body structure and an independent front and rear suspension for a unique combination of capability, interior spaciousness and comfortable ride performance. It also delivers a wide range of conventional pickup capabilities, with a maximum tow rating of 5,000 pounds and a half-ton payload rating, all while offering unique features like a large In-Bed Trunk® with dual-action tailgate for easy access.

Four distinctive Ridgeline models are available, including the Ridgeline RT, Ridgeline Sport, Ridgeline RTS and top-of-the-line Ridgeline RTL, which is available with Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System2. The 2013 Ridgeline earns an EPA fuel economy rating of 15/21/17 city/highway/combined3 mpg.

Ridgeline RT features include: Unique 17-inch steel wheels, integrated trailer hitch, pre-wiring for 7-pin trailer wiring, keyless entry, power windows and door locks, power sliding rear window, air conditioning, tilt steering wheel, cruise control, trip computer with instantaneous and average fuel economy, 6-speaker 100-watt audio system with CD player and MP3/WMA playback capability, rearview camera, and 60/40 split lift-up rear seat with under-seat storage.

Ridgeline Sport features include (adds to Ridgeline RT): Exclusive black 18-inch aluminum wheels, exclusive black honeycomb grille with black surround, black headlight and brake light housings, fog lights, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, auxiliary audio input jack, all-weather floor mats and rear privacy glass.

Ridgeline RTS features include (adds to Ridgeline RT): Exclusive 17-inch aluminum wheels, painted inner grille surfaces, body-color painted door handles, 7-pin trailer wiring connector, 8-way power driver's seat with lumbar support, dual-zone automatic climate control, 7-speaker 160-watt audio system with subwoofer, 6-disc in-dash CD system, steering wheel-mounted controls, auxiliary audio input jack, exterior temperature indicator, all-weather floor mats and privacy glass.

Ridgeline RTL features include (adds to Ridgeline RTS): Exclusive 18-inch aluminum wheels, fog lights, power moonroof, heated side mirrors, leather-trimmed interior with heated front seats, XM Radio4, HomeLink® remote system, ambient console lighting, 115-volt power outlet and carpeted floor mats.

The Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System2 with Voice Recognition and Zagat Survey® restaurant information is available on the Ridgeline RTL. It includes XM® Radio4, Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® and a multi-information display. The navigation system includes a rearview camera display, thus eliminating this display in the rearview mirror.

Powertrain The Ridgeline's all-aluminum, 60-degree, SOHC 3.5-liter VTEC V-6 engine produces 250 horsepower at 5,700 rpm and 247 lb-ft. of torque at 4,300 rpm. Variable valve timing enhances low-rpm torque while extending high-rpm horsepower for a broad power band.  The 5-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission features Grade Logic Control to help maintain the most appropriate gear when going uphill or downhill to avoid gear "hunting."

A fully automatic Variable Torque Management® 4-wheel drive system (VTM-4®) provides confident operation in rain, snow, ice, sand and mud, while also improving on-road and towing performance by distributing torque to all four wheels as needed. The system operates predominately in front-wheel-drive during dry-pavement cruising conditions and continuously proportions torque to the rear wheels during acceleration and low traction situations. The VTM-4 lock button located on the instrument panel allows the driver to temporarily hold engagement of both rear wheels to aid traction while in gears "1" and "2" at speeds of up to 18 mph.

Standard towing equipment includes an integrated tow hitch, transmission and oil coolers, heavy duty brakes, dual radiator fans and a wiring harness for a 7-pin trailer hook up (pre-wiring only on RT and Sport).

Body The unit-body architecture is designed for vastly superior rigidity compared to traditional body-on-frame designs and provides the foundation for the Ridgeline's spacious interior cabin and bed, safety performance and class-leading ride and handling performance. Its modern and athletic design incorporates a solid, one-piece appearance with no separation between the bed and the cab. The windshield wipers have a heated wiper zone to enhance wiper performance in winter driving conditions and minimize ice scraping, while large side mirrors compliment rear vision while towing.

A 5-foot-long composite cargo bed with eight tie-down locations provides a payload rating of 1,100 pounds, while four cargo area lights illuminate both the bed and the in-bed trunk. A dual-action tailgate opens down for traditional access to the cargo area or to the side for ease-of-access to the 8.5 cubic-foot In-Bed Trunk®. The Ridgeline is available with a wide variety of accessories and can conveniently accommodate motorcycles or ATVs. The cargo area measures 49.5 inches wide between the wheel wells, 20.7 inches deep and 60.0 inches long (79.0 inches with the load-supporting tailgate in the down position).

Chassis A MacPherson strut front suspension and fully independent multi-link rear suspension with trailing arms provide a smooth ride and responsive handling. A heavy-duty braking system includes 12.6-inch front and 13.1-inch rear 4-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist. The Ridgeline RT has 17x7.5-inch steel wheels and P245/65 R17 all-season tires, while the Ridgeline RTS upgrades to 17x7.5-inch aluminum wheels. Ridgeline Sport and Ridgeline RTL models are uniquely equipped with 18x7.5-inch aluminum wheels and all-season P245/60 R18 tires.

Interior The interior takes advantage of Honda's uni-body packaging efficiency to deliver full-size interior space dimensions while maintaining garage-friendly, mid-size exterior dimensions. The driving position provides ergonomically comfortable access to large and easy-to-use controls.

Between the front seats, a large multi-function console features a sliding armrest and sliding lower tray – each with a hidden storage area. Other console storage areas accommodate large and small items like mobile phones, beverage holders, compact discs and portable digital music players.

The 60/40 lift-up rear seats feature a storage area underneath that is large enough to accommodate a golf bag. Plus, the rear seating area can quickly convert for cargo duty by lifting the seats up to create enough room for a full-size mountain bike with the front wheel removed. The rear seat incorporates three LATCH positions for compatible child safety seats.

Safety All Ridgelines are equipped with standard safety features including dual-stage, multiple-threshold driver's and front passenger's SRS airbags, front side airbags with a passenger-side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS), side-curtain airbags with a rollover sensor, front-seat active head restraints, Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®), a tire pressure monitoring system and daytime running lights.

2013 Honda CR-Z gets More Power with S+ Button

2013-honda-cr-z-side-rear-view

The refreshed 2013 Honda CR-Z made its world debut at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. The revamped model gets updated styling as well as more power under the hood without compromising its fuel economy. The exterior of the 2013 Honda CR-Z gets a new front bumper design with a revised grille. The rear end gets a new aerodynamic diffuser design. The new 17-inch alloy wheels give the refreshed model a sportier look. The other exterior tweaks feature new side mirrors, lots of new lighting including a smattering of LEDs and fog lamps.

Honda has updated the hybrid’s interior with a new color scheme, while revisions to the door casings improve cabin storage. The two new exterior colors include Energetic Yellow and Aurora Violet. Also the interior is updated with new color schemes. The CR-Z is powered by the same 1.5L engine that has been updated with changes to the variable valve timing system and Engine Control Unit (ECU). Its output has been increased from 112-hp to 119-hp. The electric motor has also been improved and the CR-Z now uses a lithium-ion battery. The electric motor now puts out more power and the combined system now puts out 135 hp. It can sprint from 0 to 62 mph time in 9.0 seconds compared to the outgoing model that took 9.7 seconds.

Honda has introduced a Plus Sport (S+) boost system on the CR-Z. The S+ button allows the car’s hybrid drivetrain to add a little more power while sacrificing some of its fuel economy.“If the battery is more than 50 per cent charged, the driver can activate this system using the S+ button on the steering wheel,” Honda said in a statement. “When the accelerator is pressed the electric boost begins, delivering increased acceleration for up to ten seconds. A flashing gauge on the dashboard indicates when the system is active. S+ can be used in ECON, Normal or Sport modes.”

Jean was very impressive with the service she received working with us!

Rsm_honda

"I live in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA and one of the first locations we visited was Rancho Santa Margarita Honda. Our visit started with a greeting from one of the sales personnel, in which we expressed that we were just looking and did not need help at that time. During our perusing we were again approached by a sales person which turned out to be the Trade Up Manager, Curtis Lineberry. He understood that we were just looking, would be in the market to purchase in the next 3-4 months and he stated "when you are ready, please see me for any help you might need" at which point he handed us his card. No pressure or hassle." - Jean

A big thanks to Jean for sharing this feedback!
