New Honda Civic continues traditions while innovating!

LOMA LINDA, Calif., March 25, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- The 2013 Honda Civic available from Spreen Honda in Loma Linda, CA, has been redesigned for second time in less than two years in a concerted response to what Civic owners and fans wanted in their new compact cars. The newly redesigned 2013 Honda Civic in San Bernardino, CA comes available in a two-door coupe and four-door sedan models and has received the distinction as being the first San Bernardino, CA compact car to be named a "Top Safety Pick+" by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety. The highly touted 2013 Honda Civic offers potential owners a huge variety options at just about every turn to make the car that a customer finally takes home most comfortable for them.

Most of the trim models of the 2013 Honda Civic are powered by a 1.8-liter, four-cylinder engine that produces 140-horsepower and comes with a five-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive as standard equipment. Fuel-efficiency has always been a hallmark of the Honda Civic. That tradition is more than kept up with the 28 miles per gallon (city) and 36 miles per gallon (highway) the new 2013 Honda Civic records with its standard manual transmission.
Even at the entry-level trim model, the LX, the new Honda Civic has plenty of standard goodies that will please long time Civic fans and those new to the vehicle. Just some of the standard features that are available on the 2013 Honda Civic are power windows, doors and locks, air conditioning, tilting and telescoping steering column and cruise control.

As was stated earlier, the new Honda Civic is among the safest compact cars on the road after its most recent redesign. The IIHS, an independent and non-profit agency, gave the Civic its newly minted "Top Safety Pick+" award. To qualify for this award, a vehicle must receive a top score of "good" in at least four of the IIHS crash tests that are designed to measure crash survivability across a spectrum of common criteria. The San Bernardino, CA 2013 Civic got the highest scores possible in every test; a feat no other compact car has ever done before.

Your Weekly Maintenance Tips!

Run your AC in winter

To keep your car’s air-conditioning system fit for the next warm season, run it a few times throughout the winter. This will prevent moving parts in the compressor from seizing. Also, circulating the refrigerant will help keep the seals soft and pliant.

The Honda Fit EV Heading East!

The all-electric 2013 Honda Fit EV is coming to select East Coast markets later this month.

American Honda announced earlier today that the Fit EV will be available for lease at Honda dealerships in selected markets in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maryland, New York, and New Jersey. Customers will be able to lease the Fit EV for a period of three years at a cost of $389 per month.
The Fit EV was first launched in California and Oregon in July 2012, and is exclusively available through a lease.

The 2013 Honda Fit EV is rated by the EPA at 118 MPGe, has an EPA-rated driving range of 82 miles, and a low energy-consumption rating of just 29 kilowatt-hours per 100 miles.
“Expanding the availability of the ultra-efficient Fit EV to the East Coast is the next logical step in Honda’s strategic and customer-focused approach to growing the market for low-CO2, sustainable mobility technologies,” said Steve Center, vice president of the American Honda Environmental Business Development Office. “Combining Honda’s extensive EV experience with customers–which began 15 years ago with the Honda EV Plus–with the real-world feedback from early Fit EV lessees in several different markets will help us prepare for growing adoption of electric vehicles.”
Based on the five-passenger Honda Fit, the electric Fit EV features a 20-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery and a compact 92-kilowatt (123 horsepower) AC synchronous electric motor that generates 189 foot-pound of torque.

This powertrain is teamed to a chassis with a fully-independent suspension and a driver-selectable 3-mode drive system. The result is, according to American Honda, a fun-to-drive EV.
An on-board charger allows the vehicle to be plugged into any household-type 120-volt outlet (dedicated GFCI outlet recommended) or an available 240-volt AC power supply.
When connected to a 240-volt circuit, the Fit EV battery can be recharged in less than three hours from a low charge indicator illumination point.

When connected to an outlet, charging can be started or stopped with an included Fit EV interactive remote control, through an available smartphone application or through the internet on a personal computer.

The Fit EV is offered at a lease price of $389 per month over a three-year term, computing, according to American Honda, to a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $36,625.

Simple Tips To Extend the Life of Your Car

Preserve your car during long-term storage

If you are not going to use your car for more than a month, store it properly to prevent unnecessary damage and repairs upon your return.
  • Fill the gas tank to help prevent condensation from accumulating in the gas tank. Add a fuel stabilizer and drive the car around a bit to distribute the additive to engine parts.
  • Wash and wax the car thoroughly to protect the finish.
  • Place a vapor barrier on your garage floor. A 4-mil polyethylene drop cloth will do.
  • Disengage the parking brake to help avoid brake corrosion.
  • Put the car on jack stands to take the weight of the vehicle off the wheels and tires.
  • Disconnect and remove the battery to keep it from draining. Place the battery on a trickletype charger. Or periodically drain the battery, using a small light bulb, and then recharge it with a low-volt charger.
  • Plug the tailpipe with a rag to prevent moist air from infiltrating into it.

On March 1, a group of Honda associates traveled to Stemley Road Elementary School in Talladega to share their favorite childhood stories with students in honor of annual "Read Across America" day.

Thanks everyone for such a delightful reviews!

"I don't think words can describe how pleased I was with my experience at the RSM Honda Dealership! Having recently graduated college, I've been burdened with the weight of college debt on my shoulders. This forces me to be cautious with my spending, and find the most financially sensible method of living.  Well, as life would have it, my past car was totaled and it was time to find a ride.
Fortunately, I was greeted by Jackson Hufferd at RSM Honda and I don't think I he completely realized how much grief he saved me from over spending for my car.  Not only was he genuine about helping me in my time of need, he knew everything there was to be asked about what kind of car I was looking for, but more importantly, what kind of car was right for me. I quickly explained my financial boundaries, with a few other factors about what I was hoping for, and he got me into an Accord that I loved and could afford (which is saying a lot). Jackson shattered the stereotype of a car salesman that many fear running into. He was neither rude, shady, or forceful with getting me into a car I wasn't comfortable with. RSM gets 5 stars and my service for years to come. Please, if you are looking for something to drive in, without all the hassle of dealing with troublesome car shopping, go to RSM Honda! Everyone there came was polite and helpful, but try and ask for Jackson if you can. He was awesome! I wouldn't be spending my time expressing my gratitude if it wasn't for my complete satisfaction!" - Danny T.

"Just bought a used car from here today. The salesman (Magnum) was friendly and helpful. He listened well and showed that he cared. Magnum was highly professional and relational as he worked hard to make sure we had a great experience. The finance guy was pleasant. We didn't feel any pressure and weren't treated any differently when we said 'no' to the extended warranty and alarm. When buying a car, make RSM Honda one of the places you check out. And be sure to ask for Magnum." - Chris R.

"This is one of the best dealerships I have ever been to!  I got out of my car walked up and was greeted warmly with a big smile, and all of my apprehensions about aggressive car salesman were disbanded.  Instead of being pushed to cars i didn't want to see ( like at other dealerships), the salesman listened to what I was looking for and then put me in a CR-V that was perfect!  When you go to RSM Honda, you must ask for Jackson. He was one of the most compassionate individuals I've ever worked with. He most definitely understood me and my needs as he genuinely listened to me and got to know me, so he could find the best fit for me. He just made the whole process easy and effortless. I trust his opinion and felt like he fought for me to get the best deal possible. Everyone at RSM HONDA is great. You can tell that this is a quality establishment, all the workers greeted me warmly and asked me how I was doing.  There was a great coffee machine and fresh popcorn while I waited, which was not long.  The sales process was quick and easy, and the finance managers there were GREAT!  I was so shocked at how easy it was to get through the process!  If your looking for a car, you have to stop at RSM Honda." - Melissa B.

How to Clean a Baby Car Seat

Not a day goes past I don’t get asked how to clean a baby car seat. As Mums you would know that you can expect your baby’s car seat to take quite the beating. From milk and vomit to juice spills, from poo explosions to crushed up sultanas, it can be quite the mission keeping your child’s car seat clean (not to mention the rest of your car). It is a good idea to clean the car seat as much as possible. You may want to do a good cleaning every time you clean out the rest of your car or you may only need to clean the car seat once or twice a year, depending on what habits your child has. If your bubby tends to be a spit up king, then you can expect the car seat to have quite a few stains. If your child has a tendency to want a snack in the car, then, again, you can expect more mess than a child that doesn’t eat in the car.
  • The first thing you will need to do is take the car seat out of the car and place it down on an old blanket. Take off all the baby toys that are attached to the seat as well.
  • Get your vacuum and vacuum up all the dust, dirt, food and other larger particles. Try to get into the cracks of the seat as well as underneath the material by lifting it off. Use a furniture attachment to get into the hard to reach areas.
  • If you can, remove the entire car seat cover and place it into the washing machine on a gentle cycle. Or, hand wash the car seat and leave it out in the sun to dry.
  • If you can’t remove the entire car seat cover, then you can spot clean the really big stains and then leave the entire car seat in the sun to dry.
  • For the plastic portion of your baby’s car seat you can use a gentle soap and water mixture. Use an old cloth to scrub the plastic as well as the arms which tend to get the dirtiest.
  • Use a gentle mixture of soap and water to also wipe down the baby’s toys before placing them back on the car seat.
  • Reinstall the car seat back into the car as per the manual. If you had a professional install the car seat, then you may need to return back to them and have them do it again. You don’t want to find out after it’s too late that the car seat was not correctly reinstalled after it was cleaned.
Now that your car seat is nice and clean, the key is to keep it this way. Apart from refusing to let your child eat in the car (which is something that usually keeps them quiet for at least part of the journey), is there anything else you can do? If you find the answer to this question, then let us know!

Honda's Accord is turning heads worldwide!

The Honda Accord sedan has been voted Canada’s Car of the Year for 2013 by the country’s automotive journalists after an extensive testing process.

“We’re thrilled to receive the great feedback that we’re continuing to raise the bar in the family car category,” said Honda Canada president Takashi Sekiguchi. “We are extremely proud to see the Accord recognized by so many of Canada’s top journalists.”
The announcement was made yesterday (Feb. 14) at the opening of the Canadian International Auto Show (CIAS), in downtown Toronto. The 2013 Accord is powered by Honda’s “next generation” 2.4-litre, direct-injection, four-cylinder engine that offers great fuel efficiency. Honda says the sedan is the “most spacious and most fun to drive” Accord ever built.
“This new Accord had a lot of ‘new’ about it,” said Car of the Year program chairman Richard Russell after the award was handed out. “There’s a tendency for people to like family cars that become fun. That’s what this one has done.” The Honda Accord sedan became eligible to win Car of the Year after being voted Best New Family Car (under $30,000) during the Automotive Journalists Association of Canada’s (AJAC) annual TestFest, in October. Eighty of Canada’s leading automotive journalists evaluated 180 all new or significantly new vehicles in intensive back-to-back testing in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Winners in the 11 individual categories were named after tabulating data from approximately 2,000 separate road tests.

Octane de-mystified

"If some is good, more is better" thinking does not apply to octane. Here the rule is to supply whatever octane the engine is rated for and call it done. Higher-than-required octane does not yield more power or mileage, only oil company profits.

Some engines are rated for premium 91 octane fuel but can burn 87 octane regular, thanks to the magic of knock sensors. In that case, run regular gas if puttering around surface streets, and premium fuel if full-throttle driving is part of your daily repertoire.
